Upper-edge inspection
We examine the top windscreen area, visible bond condition, trims, staining and previous glass work.
Water entering through the top of a Land Rover or Range Rover windscreen can be caused by failure in the bonded seal, adhesive system or primer adhesion.
Some Land Rover-based vehicles can develop water ingress at the upper edge of the windscreen. The adhesive or primer system may lose adhesion, allowing rainwater to pass behind the glass and travel into the headlining, A-pillars, dashboard area or footwells.
A controlled water test can help confirm entry through the top windscreen bond. When bond or primer adhesion has failed, applying sealant around the outside is not the proper long-term repair. The windscreen may need to be removed, the aperture and bonding surfaces prepared correctly, and suitable glass refitted using the correct primer and adhesive system.
Every vehicle and piece of glass is different. These are the main points we check when planning the job.
We examine the top windscreen area, visible bond condition, trims, staining and previous glass work.
Water is introduced methodically while the upper edge, headlining and pillar areas are observed where practical.
If bond or primer failure is confirmed, removal and correct preparation and refitting may be advised instead of an external sealant patch.
The bonded seal, adhesive or primer adhesion can fail, creating a route behind the upper edge of the glass. Water may then travel behind the headlining and pillar trims.
Not before testing. Although upper windscreen bond failure is a recognised possibility on some vehicles, sunroof drains, roof seams and other body fittings can produce similar symptoms.
Not reliably when the original bond or primer adhesion has failed. Correct removal, surface preparation and refitting may be required after the entry point is confirmed.

Send the registration, postcode and photographs of the damp or staining. We’ll confirm the next practical step.
